What I love about teaching:
My favorite part of teaching is when my students learn a concept that they were struggling with.
Best teacher moment:
There was a student last year (2019) that had a severe speech impediment and his parents were concerned with whether or not he was going to get learn how to read. I had a meeting with his parents about how they can help at home. One morning during reading groups he was able to read through his first reader without my help. I was so excited I literally screamed. I emailed his parents right away (to which they both cried). The icing on the cake was that he was reading three letter words (CVC) and short sentences by the end of the school year.
Teaching philosophy:
I believe that all children are capable of learning. As long as you let them go at their pace and meet them where they are, they will not only be successful in the classroom, but develop a love for learning.
What I would like to instill in my students:
That it is okay to make mistakes because it is all a part of learning. As long as they keep trying their best, with time, they will be able to do anything they want to do.
My story:
I am 36 years old and I have been a part of Tabernacle for most of my life, I went to this school from first grade through eighth grade, I attended Berean Christian High School where I played on the Varsity basketball team all four years. I went to DVC for two years and played basketball there as well. I received a partial basketball scholarship to San Diego Christian College. There I earned my Interdisciplinary degree in Early Childhood Education/Liberal Studies. I returned to Tabernacle in 2006 to work daycare in between my junior and senior year and then came back to work in the Junior Kindergarten in 2007. I worked with Junior Kindergarten for 11 years and then moved to the Transitional Kindergarten department in 2018.
Hobbies:
I love everything crafting (card making, mixed media, acrylic pouring, etc), and singing, Right now I am really into boxing. So much so that I am a registered boxer with USA Boxing. I have been boxing (training wise) for five years now and have started competing within the last year. I have had one bout (September 2019) and am hoping to have more in the near future.
